To commemorate Veteran’s Day – and honor the 20 million living United States veterans who have faithfully served this country – we thought we would take a look at some scholarship and financial aid opportunities available to military veterans and their families.
Of course, nothing can match the sacrifice our veterans have made for us, and ours is just a partial list of the many educational programs created to support veterans upon the completion of their military service. But since the costs associated with higher education are constantly on the rise, and information on scholarships and financial aid opportunities for veterans is sometimes hard to come by, we thought any contribution we make that may help veterans get the education they deserve for themselves or their loved ones would be worthwhile. With that in mind, here is our list of links to affordable education opportunities for veterans, starting with:
1) Scholarships for Veterans
Veterans’ scholarships can come from a variety of sources, including state governments, local and regional organizations, and individual colleges and universities. Dollar figures range from smaller amounts to help veterans purchase textbooks, to five and even six-figure amounts that may help pay for the entire collegiate experience. For more information, we encourage you to explore this link on fastweb.
2) Financial Aid for veterans from governmental departments
Federal and state governments also have extensive financial aid opportunities for veterans. The Department of Veterans’ Affairs regularly publishes a booklet about education and training opportunities for veterans, which can be obtained at your nearest VA facility. The United States Department of Veterans’ Affairs also provides information on educational benefits, which can be found here.
3) Financial aid for veterans from specific military branches
4) Educational benefits from individual states
Most states provide educational assistance programs for their military personnel. While your best bet is to contact these state education departments directly, one great resource that may help guide you in your search can be found here.
5) Aid for spouses and dependents of military service personnel
Make no mistake, veterans are not the only ones who make tremendous sacrifices for our country; their families go through enormous amount of stress and worry as well. In honor of that role, there are a wide range of scholarship and financial aid opportunities for the families of military veterans as well. Just one of many great resources that provide information on these programs can be found here.
We hope the above list gives military veterans a great start on their search for obtaining the educational assistance they need. Our company, JG Wentworth, is humbled by our veterans, and moved by their service to our country. On this Veteran’s Day we extend to veterans and their families our deepest and most profound thanks.
