Some Great Places to Volunteer this Christmas

With Christmas fast approaching, we’d like to get in the true spirit of the holiday season and offer some suggestions on great places to volunteer. At J.G. Wentworth, we understand that it truly is better to give than receive, and are exceptionally proud of many of our employees, who volunteer their time not only over the holiday season but year-round.

So if you are thinking of reaching out to people in need this Christmas but don’t know where to start, here are some great places and organizations that we know will always appreciate your help.

The Salvation Army

Founded in 1865, the Salvation Army is renowned the world over for its donation shops and other charity work. A simple online search for Salvation Army offices in your area should yield many places that are sure to be grateful for any help you can provide them.

Hospital Wards/Nursing and Retirement Homes

Your local hospital will undoubtedly have a volunteer department. You can serve food, clear dishes, or visit the elderly, many of whom may be alone on the holidays. Nursing and retirement homes also love it when volunteers come in to read, play games, or just keep company with their patients and live-ins.

Homeless Shelters and Soup Kitchens

We know a family that every year gathers together and donates their day at a soup kitchen in their area. Is that amazing or what?

Homeless shelters and soup kitchens offer a welcome respite for the needy. They also always welcome volunteers, especially during late December, when temperatures can drop below zero.

Animal Shelters

All around the country there are animal shelters full of abandoned or unwanted pets. Volunteers can walk dogs, bathe and feed the animals, and help doing other chores around the shelter.

Right Outside Your Own Home

Last but not least, sometimes you need look no further than your next-door neighbor’s house to find people who may need assistance. Perhaps it’s a senior citizen living next to you who may need their sidewalk salted, or a ride somewhere. Perhaps another person in your neighborhood has nowhere to go for a Christmas meal.

Whatever you find – don’t hesitate to offer help. Is there a better way to celebrate a holiday as magnificent as Christmas than to volunteer your time?

We hope reading this blog gives you some ideas on how to truly get into the Christmas spirit. And, as always, if you would like to learn more about how to sell your structured settlement or annuity payments for cash, please call J.G. Wentworth at 877-227-4713.
