It’s July 4th this weekend, 239 years since our Founding Fathers adopted the Declaration of Independence and announced the birth of this amazing country. To celebrate the independent spirit that makes us Americans, here are seven great ways to enjoy the Fourth of July while keeping costs low – and keeping yourself as financially independent as possible.
1) Go to a free local fireworks show
Just about every major city, and many smaller communities, host free firework shows, and some can be really spectacular. A simple web search will find the fireworks display close to you.
2) Host a barbecue
There’s something uniquely American about firing up the barbecue and hosting friends and family. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune, either – if you make it a potluck.
3) Spend the day at the beach
A day at one of America’s great coastal or lakefront beaches is a truly great way to instill within yourself that sense of personal freedom so prized by citizens of this country.
4) Visit a National Park
Many of America’s greatest treasures can be found at our national parks, and the weekend of July 4th is the perfect time to enjoy them.
Most folks think of July 4th as a day to relax, but might volunteering at a hospital or local shelter also demonstrate that great American spirit?
6) Wear the colors of our flag
You can be patriotic and have fun by wearing some combination of red, white, and blue. Picking the outfit is half the fun!
7) Find other free Fourth of July activities
Parades, concerts, carnivals, kid-friendly shows – Fourth of July weekend is usually chock-full of them, and your local newspaper or city-sponsored website should provide an extensive list of these activities.
We hope this list of low-cost Fourth of July activities gives you a great jumpstart on some fun and meaningful activities this holiday weekend. We are J.G.
